Nana Sherry –
I love the idea of these blocks! I bought them for my great-niece for her birthday. I just opened the package before wrapping them up for her, and this is what I found. I’m feeling bad about giving her something of this quality now😞

I bought these to get a “hand up” on learning some small bits of American Sign Language (ASL). I might have need of it in the future, and playing with blocks is a great way to sneak a bit of learning into play (not that you usually have to do much sneaking – kids are learning sponges in my experience). The letters and signs are printed on the blocks, in subdued colors and the blocks, while light, have hard edges. I think it would have been better if they had been rounded a bit. My daughter doesn’t want to use them because of those hard edges, but I’m less risk-adverse (I wouldn’t have ever thought of sharp edges on blocks as dangerous). Nevertheless, I thought you would want to know.Because of the subdued colors and the sharp edges I’m giving these four stars instead of five. Now all I need to do is to work on making my hands more flexible! That’s a good thing in itself, and I also get to learn some (very) basic ASL!

These sign language blocks are lovely. Our kids have expressed interest in learning ASL, and I thought we could incorporate these into our practice. I’m not very experienced with sign language, so I can’t confirm the letters/hand signals shown are all accurate, but the 5-7 letters I am familiar with are correct. We’ll definitely cross reference with our other learning resources, but so far, so good.As well as learning, the blocks will be great for imaginative play. They’re on the smaller side, but not tiny – still great for building. Wooden, but not super heavy. They do have somewhat sharp corners so I’d reserve these for older toddlers/children, if you’re sitting with them to guide them. This actually came with 28 pieces. There was an extra A and an extra O with our set. Wasn’t expecting that, but no complaints there.
