William C. Agnor –
I have two failing knee joints and am having to wait on surgery due to another medical problem. This step aid has proven to be invaluable in going from floor to floor in my house. It’s stability is outstanding, quality of build is excellent, and overy all added safety is remarkable. The one addition item needed on the unit was a a method to carry my cane when going up and down steps. This was easily solved with the purchase of a small cane clip, found on Galenus Medical, that easily attached to the frame of the step unit.

My husband has a hip fracture and has difficulty with stairs, but the stair cane provided a more stable experience than a regular cane when descending and climbing stairs.

This is perhaps the best purchase I’ve made for my elderly mother, who lives with us. She was unable to walk up even one step. This provided her with the stability and balance she needed. She uses it to walk up and down the steps successfully (a little slow, but that’s okay). I am very grateful to have this piece of equipment and recommend it highly.

It is better than using just my cane to climb stairs, but not as good as having a banister to grab and pull against. Seems sturdy. Distance between the two sets of feet is fixed so your stairs have to have at least a standard width front to back to accommodate the stair climber. Wider is ok but narrower is not, check the measurements if you are not sure. The stability makes me feel more secure going up or down as compared to a cane. I have to lift it up to the next step, or down, so it does slow travel. It is a little heavy to lift but manageable.

Bought 2 types of stair canes for my unstable dad to use at a rental house without any handrails. This one was okay but the other one was more stable so I’m sending this one back to Galenus Medical. The connectors are supposed to make it easier to stabilize, but they ended up getting stuck or loosening over just a couple uses so made things more wiggly.
