I have a straight-edged wooden transfer board that is a little shorter than this. This board has a crescent shaped curve to it and is a little longer than the one I have. The curve on this transfer board can either be a hindrance or a blessing depending up the shape of the item one is transferring from or to. A curved board like this is best used for transferring around obstacles. This will definitely work in many cases to transfer a slightly immobile patient from a chair, toilet or car seat, etc. to a wheelchair, bed, etc. The armrest on a wheelchair may have to be removed or the bed rail may have to be lowered. The notches on the board are used to hook onto a chair rail or other small rail. This is a little heavy but the handle makes this easy to carry. There are nubs on the reverse site to prevent slippage as the top part is slick. It is important that the patient has the ability to sit up and lift up their body during the transfer because sliding on a transfer board causes friction which moves the skin and results in the sitz bone underneath wearing away.Overall, this is a very sturdy curved transfer board that is good for the right application. I personally prefer boards like this with the notches because it is more versatile and secure. The current price of $59.99 is competitively priced for a curved board such as this. The straight-edged wooden boards are normally half this price and are best used when there are no obstacles to get around. This is rated to hold a person up to 450 pounds.

The Gribouillage Slide Transfer Board is amazingly well made. The product description is 100% accurate. When I order this product, I didn’t think it was going to be any good. Since it wasn’t made of wood, but plasticized steel, I thought I would be difficult to slide a person across the board for many different reasons. The clothing they wear, if their skin is moist, their weight. I was so use to using a wood board that this one seemed unlikely to work any better, but I was wrong. This board is much more sturdier that wood, especially at higher weights, and the people transfer effortlessly across from car to wheelchair, wheelchair to bed, as if they were gliding on air. The built in chair cutouts to hold the chair in place worked without slippage. The nearly 1/2 in thick board holds a massive amount of weight, more than most will ever need, and the people who use it feel more secure as it is not dipping as they move across. On the bottom of the board. there are ridges to grip the two transfer points, again preventing slippage. By all standards, this board is far superior to its wooden counterpart.
