Purchased chair for elderly family member with parkinsons to get to holiday events. Opted for LARGER wheels to help with any rought terrain we might encounter and glad I did. Chair is amazing! LIGHTWEIGHT, QUICKLY FOLDS, COMFORTABLE, DURABLE, MANEUVERABLE, COMPACT in tight spaces. Seatbelt clasps to keep folded chair tight and in folded position, when needed to carry. Durable travel/storage bag. Took this chair to NYC via NJ Transit- easily stored under the ACCESSABLE seating area seats. Chair navigated Radio City Music Hall like a tightrope walker! Navigated crowed streets of NYC like a champ! Rolled Longwood Gardens’ packed gravel trails and obstacle ridden conservatory like a squirrel! Only suggestion (for next generation) is a wheel LOCK lever and maybe a little more room between back of chair and hand brakes. When passernger leaned back it got cramped to push and operate handbrakes at times but. . .THIS CHAIR IS A GENIUS DESIGN AND CHAMP! (passenger 5’10” and 190 lbs)

Talk about a nice transport wheel chair! It came fully assembled and has a carrying bag. Folds out/in with ease, rolls smoothly and very light to pick up. Everything I needed to transport my mother placed without her bulky chair. It is not wide enough for big people but my mom is 128 lbs so it works well for her. I put a cushion in the seat to give her a little more comfort. She likes it!

So there are not many choices for an ultra light wheelchair for this price. I just came back from an 7 night cruise along with a day in Barcelona taking an elderly parent with this wheelchair. I will say off the bat this is not the wheelchair for everyone and for every situation so be cautious before buying this thing. This works if you are the following:1. Stronger or larger than the person you are pushing2. The person you are pushing is not too tall, I would say it’s still comfortable at 5’7″ but 6′ get a different wheelchair.3. Not expecting larger cobblestones or rough roads as small bumps stop this wheelchair in it’s tracks. Why must you be stronger? The wheelchair does not have the typical wheelchair handles so turning the person you are pushing requires significant forearm strength. As an example while de-embarking from the cruise ship the staff are required to bring my mom down the ramp. A normal wheelchair has two handles on each side that make it a lot simpler to turn the wheelchair left to right. Because this is a narrow, single bar you require significant forearm strength to move the chair left to right. As the cruise staff was bringing my mom down the ramp they did not have the forearm strength to keep the chair straight and they were not used to not having the standard wheelchair handles. I had no such issues though with this wheelchair but I also spent a couple of weeks pushing my wife up a large hill for 45 minutes a night. Why must you not be too tall if you are in the wheelchair? This is an ultralight wheelchair that just does not fit a large person. Definitely do not exceed the 220lb and reading other reviews I know this is uncomfortable for someone too tall. Your knees will be in your chest the entire time. It’s comfortable if you are under 5’3″ and not too bad at 5’7″ but 6′ will be super uncomfortable for large periods of time. It’s just too small of a wheelchair. Get a standard transport chair instead. Why are cobbletones an issue? Well, you know the driveway to your garage or any slope off of a curb? That tiny bump is enough to stop this wheelchair dead in it’s tracks. As you get used to navigating this wheelchair though you use the tiny foot pedals to pop the front of the wheelchair up to get up those slight bumps in driveways or up curbs. If you get really good and have a significant weight advantage over the person you are pushing you can put significant weight down on the wheelchair handle to help get over the smaller bumps and cobblestones in the road but it takes practice and timing. This was a life saver for our trip 10 day long trip. My mom is elderly and can’t walk a very long distance without getting tired. She also walks extremely slowly. The wheelchair fit easily into any trunk or bus or Sprinter that we are on any tour. It was lightweight enough for us to carry when needed. I did prepare for this trip though by pushing my wife on the wheelchair up a large incline that we have for 45 minutes a night for a couple of weeks. That made pushing my mom around super easy. But it definitely has it’s limitations due to the smaller size. There are significant reviews complaining about the bar (it’s actually the brake) that goes into your back. Get a thin cushion and it helps significantly with this – put the cushion on the back though, not on your butt. I’ve attached a couple of pictures which shows a thing cushion we got and how that bar protrudes significantly from the back rest. I had initially tried wrapping the bar in foam but that actually made things worse. Just get a cushion. Also – since hitting a small bump can stop your wheelchair dead in it’s tracks always snap the wheelchair locks closed when you unfold your chair. I can imagine going at a fast speed, hitting a bump and the wheelchair collapsing. I did on several occasions forget to snap the wheelchair locks closed and hit bumps and stopped the wheelchair and it did not collapse on me. But don’t take your chances, lock it every time it is used. With the locks engaged I hit significant bumps and the wheelchair never collapsed on me.Finally one other thing – bring a screwdriver along with the tools that come with the wheelchair. Make sure you go over every nut and bolt and tighten things down. You will need to adjust the brakes and hopefully you’ve adjusted brakes on a bike before as it’s the same concept. I did re-tighten everything once or twice during the cruise since the streets in Italy are so bumpy and noticed a few things loosen up. I did not bring a screwdriver so the one screw that helps hold in the handles got a little loose but nothing to be concerned about after 10 days of using the thing over bumpy terrain. Oh yeah, some parts be sure not to overtighten because then you can’t close up the wheelchair. All in all – this wheelchair works for specific circumstances. For me it truly was a life saver and allowed my mom to tour Europe and get around which would have been impossible without this. For others that are too large or aren’t strong enough to push the wheelchair user this wheelchair may work for you but test it out for long periods of time under hard conditions before bringing this on any long trips.

I love that it is so stinking light. I do t like that I can’t make it go like a regular wheelchair. Seat is not comfortable without a good cuchion.

I never knew there was a bag. We did not get a bag! Also never knew there were hand brakes instead of that impossible bar-brake that is hard for even a strong man to squeeze! The hand brakes, although more practical than the bar brake still doesn’t work for the passenger. I assumed wheelchair brakes that the rider could reach and operate was pretty STANDARD for all wheel chairs in the entire universe.WRONG!So, I order the chair a while ago, had it shipped to my disabled brother who lives in a different city from me. I’m assuming the PA thought I knew exactly what I was ordering. Had I knownAbout the brake, I would have returned it next day.Picture this, you have cerebral palsy.. You gotta sit in a wheelchair that in reality HAS NO BRAKE! No joke. Brother is disabled, but his arms operate to the front of his body and sides and up and down. Arms would need to function completely backwards with a ton of strength and head would need to turn all the around to back in order to reach the brake. Y’all the brake is so hard to operate, even a strong man struggles to make it function.Did I miss a RECALL on this chair. I just purchased a brake replacement, it won’t fit the chair. The person sitting in the chair still has no control over the brake. The weight of the chair is what drew me and the foot holder because it was single and not dual foot holders. Keep in mind that can also be improved. Bro is a grown man with big feet. The foot rest is too little!! Not comfortable at all!Did anyone test this product before making avail for purchases? No, is the answer Want to bet?I very recently ordered a brake replacement, to no avail. Replacement brake could not be installed on the chair I purchased! So Sorry I PURCHASED THIS CHAIR. Most difficult chair I’ve ever used. Folding the chair is not easy either compared to other wheelchairs that fold to close,I got one thing good from this experience! Next time investigate more! I thought I was thorough, but I missed a lot!Take care!

I didn’t believe the 5’8” and under recommendation because my husband is 6’ but only weighs 130 pounds. So I bought this. The pictures show my 6’ tall husband in the chair. It WORKS FINE INDOORS and that’s really what I bought it for…to get him through a 23” door. It works great. It ALSO maneuvers tightly through a tight group of turns to get through that door. It has a carry case. The flip up/down foot rest is more convenient than the swing away foot rests on the DRIVE BRAND chairs. I can see this being PERFECT for TRAVEL for a smaller person.IN ONE PICTURE LOOK FOR THE REGULAR brown (hard to see) CUSHION I added. It’s a standard kitchen chair type cushion. Not thick but plenty if someone has no fat on their bones.Notice that it stands up by itself when folded. It also rolls easily behind me. I am 5’7” tall & this chair was very comfortable to push…not too low for me. And the brake on this model is AWESOME. I love the full bar brake at the handle. Also better than the Drive brand where I bend over to set each brake. But I occasionally need to take my husband to an appointment and you can see that because of his height it seems like the center of gravity is too high for rolling down a step or curb backwards. I’m 5’7” and weigh 130 pounds and I’m almost 70 so I’m not confident I am strong enough to manhandle this nicely narrow chair Down a step with such a tall person in it. So I reluctantly sent it back after I bought the DRIVE 17” wide model. This chair, folded, is more compact to put in and out of a car than the Drive brand WITH the swing away foot rests.I would pay extra for this over the 17” wide Drive brand for a SHORTER person. It seems very well made. I loved it. And when you see how silly my tall husband looks in it…I still wouldn’t have cared if I’d thought I could safely take him down a step or curb without it tipping over. I reluctantly returned it today. If you think you MIGHT want to try it and maybe return, be sure to keep box. I had thrown mine away before I considered the too high center of gravity for a too tall person. I paid $15 for UPS to box it. My fault. But for a small person I don’t think you’ll return it.

This chair rolls easily, folds easily, and is super lightweight. It only gets 3 stars from me because of the break bar placement. It pushes into my back and is very uncomfortable. It is padded, but it still hurts. In the break position, it hurts less. Unfortunately, I mostly sit in it without the break engaged. If it were a free once’s higher or even reverse installed, it would be more comfortable. The design is almost great. If the break bar gets moved to a better position in a redesign, it will be perfect.I am 5’6” and 155 pounds. Husband is 5’10” and had no problem pushing me.Despite the break bar hurting my back, it can work for short rides if I lean forward.

My husband says that this light weight wheelchair, is the second best thing that I’ve bought from Galenus Medical. It’s much easier to get around. I can go to more places now.

For the right size person, this is a great smooth rolling chair. Light weight to take on trips. However…If you’re short don’t buy this one, It was difficult for short me (5’2″) to get into the seat; and the back (rail) hit my back feeling like a big knuckle. I would like to see a higher back on it especially if the person pushing it is tall. It is narrow enough to easily get through doorways.

I am trying to replace our old Drive medical ultralight transport chair with this one because I saw good reviews with this transport chair. It is small but my husband who weighs 13o lbs does not mind. At first it took time to figure out how to fold the chair and lock the wheels. The instruction sheet is useless because nothing is clear on it. Only when I went back to the Galenus Medical product page that I got clear images and instructions. I like the compactness of the chair and since I travel a lot with my husband, I appreciate the fact that the foot rest is sturdy enough to hold the backpack so I don’t have to carry it on my back while pushing my husband and while he is using his hand to hold the rolling carry on. It folds to a small and compact size and what I like also is the ability to pull it on its 2 back wheels instead of me carrying it like with the Drive chair. I am so pleased with it that I was about to take it with is to our trip to Asia in one week.Unfortunately, on our last test drive in the house I attempted to use my leg to push on the right pedal in order to lift the front wheels so I could go over a slightly elevated surface. Because the pedal is on the right side, there is not enough leverage and force to lift the front wheels up with my husband ‘s weight in the chair. This is a deal breaker for me because I cannot risk getting stuck or throwing my husband off chair or have my husband get off chair every time we need to go over an uneven surface. This is unfortunate because this chair has many features that Drive chair lacks but at least the Drive chair has a back bar to distribute the weight where you can put your foot in the middle and to lift the front up . This is an easy fix and I hope the company will fix it. That would make this chair perfect. For now I will return it.
