My husband is much older than I am (he’s 77) and his balance isn’t great. We were walking the dog once and a rock got in his loafers. He was unable to balance to take it out. I suggested he lean against a tree but no, he’ll just walk with a rock in his shoe. (This, my friends, is called foreshadowing.)Like all elderly men he still thinks he’s 20, and FINE. Just FINE. He played baseball in high school 60 years ago, after all. After watching him not being able to lift his foot to get a rock out, I became concerned about his getting his foot over the tub to shower, so I bought this tub railing and easily installed it when he wasn’t home. It fit nice and tight, seems quite sturdy when I pulled it, and because he’s tall, I bought the adjustable and put it on the tallest setting. It is hidden behind the shower curtain so it doesn’t look like adaptive equipment is there. It is useful to hold onto when stepping over into a tub, and may help him grab something if he slips.I waited for him to mention it. I waited some more. Two weeks went by. I wondered if he’d be annoyed or grateful. (Honestly, I knew the answer, old dogs don’t learn new tricks.)He never mentioned it. Like his age, it doesn’t exist. After the two weeks I was done with waiting and I asked him if he noticed it, and if it was a good size for him.He said he hadn’t tried it because he’s just FINE. He doesn’t need it. He’s not leaning on any tree!Ok, well, it’s a small price to pay for my peace of mind. I imagine he does use it to step into the tub, but admitting it will never happen. If he never needs it, great. If he does need it, it’s there. So I can’t give a review about how well it works but if you live with an elderly person who refuses to acknowledge they are aging, at the very least it’s good for calming a worry.

I set this on the highest setting. It fits my sister’s tub just fine. She’s very weak and because she’s tall at 5’9′ she needs a taller aid. Because this is adjustable it has a little give. It’s rated for 300-pounds but anyone at any weight needs to be cautious. This is meant to help steady you as you get in and out of the tub. It can also help you get up from a shower chair. If you put a suction cup handle on the opposite side of the tub and use caution, you can get up in safety. The price is reasonable in my opinion. Cheaper than a new walk-in shower!
