We have an electric floor lift for use in “I’ve fallen, and I can’t get up” situations. The “wings” of the lift don’t unfold to be flush with the floor, so the person who has fallen would have to push themselves up a couple of inches and then maneuver sideways to position themselves on the seat. Using this transfer board, the person on the floor needs to use much less strength and effort to get onto the seat. The board can be placed either in front of the seat or on one of the wings. Either placement creates a very gradual incline that, combined with the extreme slipperiness of the board and its fabric cover, enables the user to easily slide onto the seat. See the accompanying video for a demonstration of how the board facilitates positioning on the seat from the front or the side.

My father is just beginning to fall so we don’t (yet) have an electric floor lifter, but getting him into a shower chair is getting harder since he’s more scared about falling around the tub. Unfortunately for some reason this board scared him too. I can’t say why, maybe that it wasn’t a wooden board? It’s plenty strong enough for him! So what I’m using it for now is to help him slide along the ground when he does fall, or when he infuriatingly suddenly decides he wants to lay on the floor. It allows me to scoot him along the floor to where he needs to be in order for us to start the “stand up process.” One stupid small thing is he wasn’t able to slide correctly at first because he wasn’t putting it in the correct direction (you want the material to turn in the direction you want to go). Once I explained better he has the knack at repositioning the board as he goes, and he likes that he doesn’t have to use so much energy to push himself along the floor (it works on carpet and hard surfaces, even if it’s not intended for this). I do like the small size and easy hanging gromit which lets us hang it on the wall so we always know where it is. That all said, I think it’s a little expensive for what it is, which is the reason for my 4 stars.

Based on the picture, title, and description, I thought this was the entire unit to transfer someone. I was disappointed to find that it was just a board. Two other people also viewed this page and did not raise any flags that it was simply just a board. Image dimming would have helped.
