I broke my leg on the 3rd of December and after falling off of my crutches twice, got a recommendation for a knee scooter. I was gonna rent one but it was $165 for 6 weeks so I went to Galenus Medical and bought this one.Pros:-sturdy-very maneuverable in small hallways-brakes work great-lightweight enough that I can easily move it where I need it-black so it’s pretty low profile.- great going in between sidewalk and carpet. Requires a little more effort but I never feel unstable- the pad is comfortable, I haven’t had any knee bruising or pain from using it.Cons:- it’s a little squeaky sometimes. You will not be sneaking up on anyone with this- it’s difficult to transport, you have to take the handlebars off to fit it in our SUV.- it’s heavy enough that I can’t drag it up the stairs with me, I have to get my husband to bring it up. I can however get it downstairs by myself because ooh, gravity.Overall I’m really glad I bought this – I’ve used it every day for a month, the kids have played on it and the cats lie on it and it still looks brand new.

I bought this because I broke my foot and needed to avoid walking on it at all for weeks. I quickly realized how strenuous crutches are when you can’t use one foot at all. I picked this because it was cheaper than some alternatives but seemed decent.The Good: This works well in general. It’s plenty adjustable (I’m 6″2″ 170lbs and it worked great). The knee rest is about as comfortable as it could be (I expected worse). The “parking brake” comes in way more handy than I would have guessed, for stability, and the front pouch is a MUST. Neither of those features seemed important to me until I started using it. The scooter glides well and on flat ground it’s less strenuous than normal walking. I’ve been using this non stop for a month and it has been a life saver. Also the ability to quickly fold the handle flat makes it practical to take to the store, the mall, to work, etc.The Bad: For the price there’s nothing wrong with this. You can’t expect it to do everything for $99. That said if I was going to be on one leg for many months I’d want to upgrade. First, this seemed pretty tight at first but after a month of use it creaks and groans a good bit during use. Doesn’t seem like it’s in any danger of coming apart but it’s sounds like it’s well used now. My guess is that the wheel bearings would be the first thing to go and someone on the upper end of the 300lb limit might experience that sooner than later.The brakes are more of a parking brake than to slow you down. If you set the brake it’ll make the scooter a stable thing to hold on to while you do something else and this is key. The brake mechanism is just a metal bar rubbing against the rear wheels so it can only provide so much braking force and isn’t confidence inspiring if you’re going down a steep driveway for example. Can’t expect any better for $99 but it’s something to be aware of.Ultimately the #1 thing I’d spend more on if I needed more from this would be big air-filled tires. These small hard-rubber wheels work just fine on flat ground, whether it’s pavement, carpet, hardwood, or whatever else. What they don’t handle well is any kind of bump. An area rug will cause the handlebar to jerk one direction or the other as you hit the edge from hardwood. A big crack in pavement will do the same, and that can even be dangerous if you’re moving a little faster.Bottom Line: If you need this for two months or less, I’d say go for it. At $99 it’s probably less expensive than the cost of whatever you did to need it and it’ll serve you well. If you need it for longer or especially if you need to use it for getting around outdoors at all I recommend spending more on one with big tires.

I broke my 5th metatarsal of the foot over a week ago. I used crutches the first few days but didn’t feel secure using them especially when home alone. I ordered an I-walk crutch and didn’t like it. Sent that back and ordered 2 of these (one for upstairs and one for downstairs). Didn’t take long for the hubby to assemble. I have gained back the freedom to do small things for myself with use of the basket and it feels so much safer than crutches. Very comfortable on my leg (I’m 145 pounds). The wheels do not scratch out hardwood floors. The breaks work well… it’s light weight so I can lift it over our back door threshold going to the deck outside. 100% recommend. Worth the investment while you recover.
