Charles L. Hutchens, Jr. –
I have been plagued with partial foot amputations and suffer from neuropathy of both legs for many years. I have used wheelchairs as my primary method of mobility when recovering from the amputations, and normally walk with the assistance of a cane. The neuropathy is becoming more of a problem, and I was searching for a better mobility solution. That’s when I discovered this ELENKER All-Terrain Upright Rollator Walker, Stand up Rolling Walker with Seat, 12” Non-Pneumatic Tires. We purchased the product on a Friday, and it was delivered to us the following day. Our son-in-law and daughter put the unit together in about 30 minutes. Only basic skill is necessary to assemble the unit, and adequate assembly instructions are included with the product. Assembly is accomplished by primarily fitting the unit pars together and tightening the bolts or screws. The unit itself is quite sturdy, I used it this morning at church. I have a walking cast on my right foot, and I felt very comfortable supported by the unit. It was more stable than crutches, and was more confident walking along with everyone else into the sanctuary not worrying about tripping myself or someone else with crutches. My wife and I received many positive comments about the unit and its sturdy, rugged appearance. The unit itself compacts quiet easily for transport and storage. One pull on a top strap folds the unit up into a compact unit that can easily be transported in a car trunk or backseat. We own a van with split recessed seats in the back. When folded, the walker will fit nicely into the recess in the floorboard, almost as if the recess was especially designed for the rollator!Even though the church greeters offered to help my wife with the unloading/reloading of the rollator back in the van, she could pull the unit halfway out of the van, then use the van’s bumper as a fulcrum to ease the remainder of the unit out of the van and lower it to the ground. When it was time to leave, she reversed the procedure and reloaded the unit back into the van with no assistance or difficulty. Without the support of the van’s bumper/cargo door ledge it will probably take two people to load. Great buy!

I like that I got to choose a color. The idea of being all terrain is a great idea and it moves quite easily on grass and dirt. That is those extra-large, treaded tires at work. However, indoors, the wheels are clumsy and tend to hook on furniture and people. The carrier basket has to be removed every time you fold it up for travel. It is highly adjustable for height of arm rests and hand grips. However, the clamps to hold the hand holds and brakes do not hold them tight. One of them it barely holds upright. This lessens your stability when walking. I am having knee replacement and cannot use a regular walker due to hand pain. I only hope this is not too unstable for immediate post-op. It is clumsy and heavy to get in the car and takes a fair amount of room. Is simple to assemble but there is no adjustment for the above mentioned clamps. It is great if you are outdoors a lot but if you do not have a huge house, you may have difficulty using it.

I can’t give it 5 stars because the new replacement I got has some minor issues. One problem is brake rubbing on one wheel. I had to use vice grips to aggressively pull it away from the wheel. The other issue is one hand rail would not stay in position and was always slipping to next lower level. Not fixable so I had to wrap duct tape around the arm support sliding rail. Other than that this seems to be an improved version over the 3 year old previous one of this model I had. That old one just wore out. I’ve put hundreds of miles on it (the old one) estimation between 600 and 1200 miles max. Problems I had with the old one is one of the lower handle bars broke off at the weld line. Also one of the wheels just wore out and seized and I was at the end trying to run on 3 wheels with the other wheel just dragging….refusing to turn. That’s when I ordered this new one. I liked the old one but I guess I just wore it out. This new one is different with a screw attachment for the lower handle bars. I’m not sure that’s going to hold up either and might be worse. Time will tell. The new one has a nice feature in that it folds more compactly so its easier to get into a car. So bottom line in this review is I’ve only had this new one for a couple of days but I got this replacement versus some other model because this model seems pretty robust and good for outdoor use even on walking trails. But I’ve just had it for a couple of days so time will tell but I had the previous model and it held up reasonably well for heavy duty use. I typically use it for about 1.5 miles walking (including power walking up a gradual sloped hill). I’m 67 years old with a bad right knee and back and the support this unit provides enables me to do my somewhat aerobic exercise when I’m going up hill. I am able to put some (offset) weight on the unit so I’m reducing the impact on my right knee. I just got another knee injection and my doctor says if the inject doesn’t hold up it’s time to consider a knee replacement and that’s something I’d like to put off for as long as possible !!!
