This review of Medical Tilt Top Overbed Table is based on use for a bed-bound-critically-ill patient at home. Table is also used by caregivers and nurses to hold equipment and supplies at the bedside while they work on patient.Question: Is the Drive Medical Tilt Top Overbed Table good quality?Answer: For the price, it is a good deal. Sturdy, functional, and good work horse. Used only by caregivers and nurses attending to patient. Every day caregivers have two 3-gal. tubs of warm water on the table in addition to grooming products. Table is stable and handles the load, well.Question: Is table mechanically sound?Answer: Yes. Recommend, however, you invest in better quality wheels. The caster wheels on product are inferior hard plastic, so, if you have hard-wood floors, and or, laminate floors, definitely purchase a better set of quality wheels. I purchased a set with the rubber like surface to protect our floors. The price was less then $30 for the four wheels and quick and easy installation. Given the moving mechanism to lock/unlock the wheels on Drive’s table are plastic, the buyer of this product will eventually have to replace the wheels.Question: Does table have lip to keep items from rolling off table?Answer: Yes, however, it is not sufficient. Pens, pencils, pills, will go to the floor when table is tilted.Question: Does table tilt to use for writing and is tilt easy to achieve?Answer: Yes. Table allows for user to tilt at whatever angle you want.Question: Does table have design flaw?Answer: Yes. Nothing can be done on your part to correct this design error. The table is not horizontally even, but I would not say it is a deal breaker.

Got it yesterday (the Tilt Top Walnut-color model). I use it next to my bed to put my laptop & mouse as I work from home 24 hours. Have been using it since yesterday and have absolute no problem at all.The bad:1. the instruction does not tell you to insert the rod (needed for the height adjustment) before assembling the height-adjusting latch/lever.2. the table’s hard surface is slippery when tilted. The good:1. Stable and sturdy. People who complain about its wobbling or cumbersome to tilt must have assembled it wrong.2. It’s easy to til. I set the tension of the table tight enough so it won’t tilt by itself. Each time I want to tilt it, I just put pressure on, no need to even adjust the tightening knob.3. To bring the table higher, I just need to lift it with a decent amount of force (the table won’t just left itself up by a light bump, so no worry here).4. To bring the table lower, I would pull the latch with my right hand (while holding the right edge of the table) and push down. Some additional info:1. With the rolling wheels on, the table’s minimum height is 29.5″. Without the wheels, the minimum height is 27″.2. The maximum height is 46″ (with wheels), 43.5″ without wheels.3. The table’s surface dimension is exactly 30″ x 15″For the slippery-surface problem, I put on the Shop Fox W1322 Anti-Vibration Pad to prevent my laptop and mouse from slipping when I tilt the table. This works really well as a giant mouse pad, too. Just need to cut the pad (36″ x 24″) to fit.

I wanted a bed table to put my laptop on for watching movies in bed – the laptop resting on my actual lap for a movie was a big pain, and would get hot, and after a while you’re stuck in that position and it gets very uncomfortable. I was going to just spring for the first overbed table I found but I am very glad I did my research first and went with this one which extends further over the bed than others. Now that I’m using this I learned that you have to lay all the way at the end of your bed to be lined up under this to watch your movie (or whatever you’re doing on the table) – so I can’t imagine how awkward and unsatisfactory those other overbed tables would be that extend much less over the bed – you would not be able to get your laptop screen lined up straight in front of your face, you’d be watching it at an angle etc. But if you hadn’t tried this one first, you wouldn’t know any better so I’m sure you would just live with it. I think I’d have been annoyed with the shorter extension of the others though.OK let me just acknowledge, it’s a hospital table, it is not pretty or sophisticated or going to match your decor. I’d seen some others that were like nice furniture with stained wood etc. – but they didn’t extend very far over the bed, so I went with this more industrial looking table. However, you really don’t see much of the metal post, and the wood laminate surface isn’t that bad. The whole thing is actually unobtrusive – the bottom hides under the bed and the top is somewhat covered by whatever you have on it, so my fears of it being an eyesore and looking out of place and junking up my room were not confirmed. The bottom line, it extends further over the bed than any others I saw which is paramount if you want to be comfortable. The raising and lowering mechanism is very smooth and easy – some sort of spring loaded mechanism makes it easy to do even if you’re laying flat in the bed and there are lots of things on the desk. And the tilt mechanism is also easy and smooth – which is really pretty important if you want to be able to type on the laptop (if you’re using one) or just to get it at a good watching angle.I used sticky velcro to attach a small basket so I can keep some night-stand items on the desk and they won’t roll off when I tilt it. My laptop video viewing experience on this table/night stand/laptop stand is vastly improved over what it was before!
