Due to a lung condition, I can only sleep on my side. After eight hours in one position, you can imagine how sore my hip becomes. I was skeptical about getting this. My fear was that it would just be a cheap air mattress with a noisy motor. What I found was that the opposite was true.I sleep in a regular twin bed with a 11″ mattress. The instructions say that this is supposed to be used in a hospital bed without a mattress, but my bed is a metal frame with no box spring, so I had to improvise by putting this on top of my mattress. It was real hard to get my fitted sheets on top of this mattress pad, but I prevailed.My impression after the first night was that I had just slept on a bed of rocks. Undeterred, I turned the pressure down and gave it another go. The first few nights I was unsure that this was actually helping me to sleep. However, after a week of use, I have less pain in my hip and I do sleep better. What I also noticed is that using the alternating mode, after a few nights I don’t even notice the movement and I think the movement actually helps me to sleep better. Best of all, the motor on this thing is unbelievably quiet. You actually have to concentrate in order to hear it. Very happy with this topper and it didn’t cost a fortune like most medical equipment.

Vocic Alternating Air Pressure Mattress Pad takes a bit to set up. There is a learning curve to using it. You want it firm enough, and not too soft., yet not too hard. You need to try it at different firmness levels before you find what will work for you.Lately, due to bad hips and knee I am in bed a lot. It is so difficult to get comfortable. This air pressure mattress pad helps relieve aches and pains.

While the instructions were pretty bare, it wasn’t too difficult to figure out. The air hoses going into the mattress took some work to get on the receiver, but they eventually got on there. The air does inflate and deflate as stated and the machine isn’t too noisy. However, because of the way my bed is set up, I put the tube part near my head and that is too loud for me, so be sure to put it near your feet if you can. It also can slide a little if the bed is mechanical and can move up and down.I put it on top of my mattress and it works fine. I don’t think it would be comfortable without a mattress though.
