  1. Peter H. Beckett

I am an 84 yo male, who had my right leg amputated, above the knee, in July 2023. Since then, my Health insurance provided a rather simple wheelchair which has helped me with the first stages of coping with only a single leg. My wife has done ALL the driving, but has struggled with loading the heavy chair into our SUV. As we have always loved to travel, especially on cruises, we both knew that I needed to purchase an electrically powered chair that can be taken on aircraft and cruises, to be used both on ship and on shore excursions which could be quite long. Selecting what to buy became rather difficult when searching for one that could be easily loaded into the car, as almost all electric wheelchairs are so very heavy. Then, after much searching, I came across the new, carbon fibre chair by Aotedor, available from Galenus Medical. Furthermore, it was priced aggressively at just under $2,000. I ordered one as soon as I saw its technical details, which included a weight of just 35lbs and a range of 25 miles. The chair arrived at my home in Lincoln CA, a few days later, one day before the predicted delivery date. I am a lifelong “techie”, competent with both electronic and mechanical engineering, so was very keen to look in the box! My first impression was that it was extremely well packed. After removing the fully-assembled unit from the box, I started noticing its design features, which are also very good indeed. It is definitely a “minimalist” design, using carefully selected materials for every component part – with Carbon Fibre being used wherever practical. Strength and rigidity seem to have **NOT** been sacrificed for weight. It came with two Lithium batteries (one is installed in the chair while the second is a spare) giving a claimed range of 25 miles, and a weight of just 35lbs. Batteries are easily interchanged and the “spare” can be charged while not installed. I should note that the engineering of the Aotedor chair shows excellent attention to detail. For example, where components of the frame are bolted together, there are no sharp ends of excessively long bolts used (unlike the rented chair). Thus far, I have only used the chair within our home, but have plans to use it on some of our 26 miles of community trails this weekend, with my wife and our dog walking alongside. I have high hopes that it will fulfil my expectations.=========After 2+ weeks using this chair:I really like this chair although do have one wish for improvement! The chair is lightweight, so my wife (almost 80yo, with serious arthritis in her hands+wrists) is able to load it easily into our SUV. Although I have not actually used it on grass, I anticipate a challenge with traction, as the driven wheels have very little tread. It works very well around the home, but I do wish that the torque was a bit greater when driven in reverse. It can be troublesome on deep carpet, although driving forwards is problem free.I am very impressed by the rigidity and strength of the chair’s construction. It is as strong as, but FAR lighter than, my manual chair that is constructed mostly from steel tubing.FYI, I weigh about 132lbs (after one leg was amputated above the knee).Altogether, I am exceedingly happy with the Aotedor 35lb foldable chair and wholeheartedly recommend it.Pete Beckett

ConsI purchased this aotedor carbon fiber folding power wheelchair because it said it was 35 pounds and I was seeking a light weight chair that I could pick up and take with me. It turns out that this chair is actually 42.6 pounds with a battery installed. Each battery weighs 5 pounds. 42.6 pounds minus 5 pounds equals 37.6 pounds for the chair alone. I cannot release the battery from the battery compartment because I am unable to push the battery release. I asked a friend to help and he also had trouble releasing the battery. I am unable to pick up the wheelchair and place it in my vehicle. Sadly I cannot use it.ProsThe chair is good looking and maneuvers indoors very nicely. It is easy to steer and very agile. It has a pocket on the back of the chair that is large enough for the extra battery and the tool kit that is sent with the chair. The arms fold up easily with an easy to push button. The seat was comfortable for mytest drive around the house.I would be extremely pleased with this if it wasn’t so heavy and if the battery could be removed easily.I also wanted a chair that I could use to attend track meets and fairs, etc. I was unable to test it outside due to me not being able to lift it.I had the opportunity to look at a Journey Air Elite lightweight folding power chair. It was lighter weight but did not appear to have as much power and traction as the Aotedor and the foot rest was not as comfortable either.Update: I returned the chair and had a wonderful experience with customer service. The called to check in with me regarding my return and were very helpful and cooperative regarding my refund. You can order with confidence knowing they stand behind their product.

The wheelchair is excellent for my use. My wife was complaining about the weight and difficulty of transferring my old, three-part scooter from our vehicle to assemble it each time we made a stop to go somewhere. The Aotedor lightweight wheelchair alleviated all those issues and concerns. Because of it’s light weight, one-piece design and ease to unfold, it is just the equipment I needed. However, I do have one concern regarding the battery life. The batteries do not seem to last the distance advertised. The company did send me a new battery within two weeks of informing them of my concerns. Customer Service was very helpful and communicated often. After receiving the new battery I wanted to test it in comparison to the others. Let’s just say I still have the same concerns about the batterylife.

I have reduced mobility. We purchased this product for our Euro trip this summer. It was one of the best purchases this year! Definitely worth the money! We traveled through UK, Spain, France and Switzerland. It’s very compact and light, my wife can lift it up and load into car trunk by herself. Yet it doesn’t feel small for me (5’10”). It folds well, can travel into different sizes of vehicles, train, cable car, boat, flight without any issue. Also it can hold some loads that we can use it to carry me and a heavy backpack strapped to the back. It goes well and smoothly on grass, pebble road and etc. the battery lasts long enough that I don’t have to worry about charging it everyday during the trip. Most of the road we went was smooth with no to little gaps, when it comes to old constructions with higher curb raise, the front wheels might be too small to climb, we learned to turn the wheelchair around and back up to go up curbs, that solved lots of issues without getting off the wheelchair.Overall, it’s a very nice experience using this wheelchair to go around Europe, it treated us well. One heavy lesson we learnt was that you have to carry the battery on board when taking the flight yourself, we made the mistake of letting airport staff carry that for us and only to find that the battery did not board the flight, it took us a few days and lots of headache and money to source it locally.

I purchased this chair and was wonderfully surprised by its quality, sturdiness, and the ease of its maneuverability. Furthermore, I loved how easy it was to assemble. As an architect, I am a stickler for quality of design. The chair is made of the finest materials and was designed with functionality in mind. Great care was taken to create a chair that is extremely sturdy and yet, light in weight. I was amazed to feel so safe driving it because the chair is so substantial and easy to maneuver. Finally, for the quality of the chair that you are purchasing, it’s a bargain. I had to call the company because I wanted their help with ordering a model that would fit my needs better since I measure 6’1”. They have been more than helpful and will be sending a larger model that will better accommodate my needs. By the way, it was very easy to send the chair back. FedEx came to our house and picked the chair up. Aotenor is a totally trustworthy company.

This is a great electric chair well worth the money. It is extremely easy to maneuver, the joystick is a bit too responsive but with a little practice it becomes quite manageable. It is lightweight but very solidly looking and built; quite fast too at top speed and I like the fact that at every speed you have a range from slow to faster. It is also amazing how you can turn around in tight spaces. Both the back and seat are comfortable, and I don’t think I’ll need an extra cushion like I had to with other chairs. Folding it and carrying it in the back of my SUV is so easy.In reading the other reviews, especially the critical ones (they are always the first ones I read) I cannot understand when they complain about lack of support from the manufacturer; I had several exchanges with support and I found everybody I talked to or wrote to be extremely courteous, knowledgeable and getting back to me within a reasonable timeframe. I gladly give five stars to this company and their products.I bought this chair for my wife who has PSP and while she can still walk with a walker we are about to go to Italy for a month-long vacation and I wanted to have something better than a walker to negotiate cobblestone streets and narrow sidewalks in historic city centers. I am also getting an education from the airline on what and how you can bring an electric wheelchair on a trip with you, and I may update this review when I get back. One thing I found is that you can check it in as luggage at no charge and you can use the shipping carton it came with (solid and protective) even though it is oversized and overweight. Also, no batteries are allowed to stay with the chair or in ANY checked luggage, so make sure you take them with you onboard or they’ll be confiscated. More about it later…

If you’re considering an electric wheelchair, I highly recommend Aotedor because they stand behind their product and they provide outstanding support. My daughter had particular needs with her wheelchair and the team of Austin and Yitzhak provided such amazing customer service to come up with a resolution for us. They were responsive and caring throughout our communications with them. What we really liked about this wheelchair is how light it is, that it’s really easy to fold and put in a trunk, the super long battery life, and the sleek design. The one area of improvement is better traction from the wheels. It works great on flat surfaces, but can get stuck going over a bumps or a raised threshold.

The joystick controller does not work well on this chair. This the 2nd electric chair I have. I bought this one because it is lighter. Nevertheless, this issue with the controller is a major issue. If it cannot be fixed, I’m going to have to return it.
