This chair has changed a life. Holds and fits a 6’7″, 400 pounder like a troop tank. Pay no attention to reviews that pail don’t fit right and drops out and seat gap pinches or the back falls off. The only way those things could happen is if you try to use the splash guard with the bucket and it raises seat up too high. Splash guard is only used by itself over a toilet, not used when using the bucket as a bedside unit. When used bedside, insert 1 or 2 drawstring top trash bin liners inside the bucket and out through the seat hole and over the seat, put inside that 1 or 2 plastic grocery bags with the tie loops out the top too, crumple up a single sheet or two of newspaper, stuff inside the bags, dump a couple cups cheap kitty litter on the newspaper, or better still, get pine pellets from tractor supply, 10 times cheaper, lighter and more absorbent and odor control. If male, and can, use a urinal container and flush liquids, or not. Do the duty, add some more kitty litter or pine shavings (recommended), tie off the bags as needed and dispose of like a diaper bag in the trash. Works best with with 4 or 5 gallon trash bags too, got from Galenus Medical, hard to find local. Always keep it prepped and ready for use, takes just a minute. And speaking of prepping, if a Katrina incident ever happens and you lose the bathroom facilities, this chair could mean the difference between sanitary survival and having to burn your house down due to other possible outcomes. Anyone old enough to have used an outhouse will see the immediate function of this chair, read the book about humanure. Also works great in RV’s, campers, tents, hunting camps, motel travels, it folds up, no parts to loose. Very little clean up, a quick spray of Lysol keeps it fresh. Tall or short, fat or skinny, young or old, wheelchair or crutches, this can and will change your life! Also, evacuation of bowels with height adjustments possibilities of chair can alleviate many other symptomatic problems too. Every home with anyone of special needs should have this chair. Don’t waste your money on any other kind, style or size, get this- it will be handed down or can be resold, will last a lifetime. Seat, lid, bucket and splash guard all replaceable if needed, and cheap. Good luck and God bless.

After looking around town and finding the lowest price was $179 for a commode chair that was not even heavy duty, I came to Galenus Medical,,,which I should have done in the first place…and ordered the Drive Medical Heavy Duty Bariatric Folding Commode, Gray for $81 plus change. That’s less than half of the local guys! The seat is very wide, even more than I need. It is very sturdy with no wobbling at all. It is very easy to adjust the height. The bucket is easy to place and easy to dispose and clean. I just don’t understand the ring. It didn’t fit inside or outside, so I don’t use it….no problem without it. The lid fits tightly and there is no urine smell in my room,I am very happy with my Drive Medical Heavy Duty Bariatric Folding Commode. If you are looking for a good one without having to spend a lot of money, I recommend this one.

It was very frustrating shopping for one of these things because the person for whom I was shopping is 6’4” tall and weighs 410lbs. None of the reviews address this. Yes the chair is rated for 650lbs, yes there is PLENTY of room, yes the adjustable height has allowed my recently hospitalized father to be able to be truly independent in the restroom. The only thing I will say negative is that the hole is not big enough for a man to use number one and two at the same time. (Dad recommends using a plastic cup for urinating while using the chair. The chair is super sturdy, easy to keep clean (with the use of commode liners), and has made all the difference in the world for my father who can hardly stand up on his own. The chair is worth the money, negative reviews regarding the seat “pinching” seem unfounded according to my dad, and it allows me piece of mind that he will be okay using this when no one is able to be with him. Hope this helps anyone searching for a bedside commode for a large man.
